Hope for JOSANA
The City of Rochester has mandated that funds from a "Restore New York" grant be put toward deconstruction of 75 rundown , city-owned buildings.

Groundbreaking at 56 Grape
Harris RF Corporation has helped us to fully fund a new home for Jeffery Dix, in celebration of the company's 50th anniversary! The City awarded us 4 new lots to build on, and Harris has helped us to continue building during this construction season!

3rd Annual Youth Immersion Was a Success
Students from Rochester area high schools devoted part of their summers to learn about Habitat and our mission. Two groups of teenagers participated in the program the weeks of June 28th and July 12th, 2010. They worked on the build site, interacted with office members, visited some of our partner companies and talked with homeowners.

"A Brush With Kindness" Initiative Launched
June 30, 2010
We launched a new initiative to further help those in the JOSANA neighborhood. Low-income homeowners in the neighborhood can now request help with maintaining the exterior of their homes including painting and repairs to decks, fences, siding, roofs, and improvements to landscaping. Priority will be given to elderly and disabled applicants.
Applications are available at the Charles Settlement House at 445 Jay St., Rochester, NY 14611.

BOCES2 Students Partner with Habitat
June 23, 2010
Carpentry students from BOCES2 built a Habitat home, which was transfered to 588 Jay Street in two halves. This is the begining of an ongoing program with the school; a new home will be built each year!

It's a feast, an awards ceremony, and a party all rolled into one! Flower City Habitat's annual dinner emphasizes the importance of all the volunteers who make Habitat successful. The event is also our annual meeting, so we'll do just a little business along the way.

The McQuaid Hike for Habitat is a 5K Walk to benefit Flower City Habitat for Humanity. On the morning of Saturday, May 22nd students from McQuaid, along with family members and guests from Mercy High School will walk to support the effort to revitalize neighborhoods and build homes in the Rochester area.

It was a perfect spring morning to move some dirt, as "the ladies" gathered to break ground on our Women Build 2010 project. With leadership, fundraising, and construction help provided almost exclusively by women from our community, this project will provide a decent affordable home for single mother Linda Powell and her sons.

RIT students not only secured all of the funding required for a full house sponsorship, they also participated in the design and construction of the "green" house that will be home to April Randall and her son De-Sante. The dedication ceremony was "standing room only!"

Students from the University of Rochester's Habitat campus chapter have been raising money for years to help fund a Habitat home. Their hard work paid off in a dedication ceremony at 119 Whitney Street, the new home of Mattie Marsh.
