Fundraising Committee

A Fundraising committee plans events, activities and projects to raise the needed funds to support the project.

While your group may approach corporations and businesses for in-kind donations, please respect our "Do Not Approach" list for those vendors, businesses and corporations that are already supporting Habitat.

Fundraising Ideas

The following list describes successful fundraising events conducted by previous house sponsors. Some of these provide an opportunity for teenagers and children of all ages to participate in the Habitat Project.

Golf Tournament

Square Foot Drive
Each house contains approximately 1,100 square feet of livable space; each square foot thus costs $60.00. Certificates can be designed and purchased in memory of a loved one, to honor a family name, or as a holiday or special-occasion gift. This has proven to be a very effective approach to fundraising, and many people choose to support a project in this way.

Purchase Materials for the House
Lists of material costs may be published, and people may choose to donate cash to purchase a door, window, roof shingles, etc. This is a popular fund raiser, as people like the idea of "buying" a specific item for the house. One couple even chose to give each other Habitat House matching doors for their anniversary! Try "Sign-A-Stud" and ask for a small donation to autograph a stud that will be installed in the framing of  the home.

Used Clothing Drive
Organized through St. Pauly Textile this activity requires good publicity, but otherwise little work.

Concert or Theater Group Habitat Benefit

Hike for Habitat
Individual, corporate, and local business sponsors were sought for this event. It was a great event for families and teens.

Bowl-A-Thon

Raffles

Pin Sale
Pins can be made or purchased from Habitat for Humanity International. Acrylic House Pins in a variety of designs can also be ordered from Designs by Lucinda. They cost $6.95 each and can be sold for up to $14.00 apeice.

Red Wings or Amerks Ticket Sales
Both teams offer group discounts and other fundraising opportunities. Call the Rochester Red Wings Director of Group Sales (454-1001, ext. 3022) or the Amerks at 454-5335.

T-Shirt Sales
Design, produce, and sell your own project shirts. The number of T-shirts purchased should be carefully considered; Large and XL shirts seem to sell best.

Sponsor Walk... around the Sponsor's Property
A great family event!

Family Carnival
One group of neighborhood children organized their own carnival to help the Habitat Project.
